Unfortunately, property bonds can be financially dangerous. If the defendant doesn’t show up for court, they have the legal right to foreclose on the property to make up the bail amount.

Are Property Bonds a Good Option?

In some cases, property bonds may be a good option. But, it is important to weigh the cost of putting a lien on your home. Do you trust the person you are baling out? Are they responsible enough to appear for all court dates? If not, you need to consider other options for bailing them out of jail, as you don’t want to have to forfeit your home or other property should they fail to appear in court.
